Poet John Milton wrote that the goal of learning is to repair the ruin of our first parents, to regain a right knowledge of God, and out of that knowledge, to love Him. This simple yet profound statement, paralleling Psalm 78:5-11, the three major objectives of Christian education and of Morris Christian School: · to train each child in obedience to God (keep His commandments), · to impart to them a knowledge of Him and His works (not forget the works of God), · and to encourage them to personally put their faith and trust in Him (set their hope in God). Each life lived according to God’s law is a salt that preserves and promotes civil order and helps repair the damage of the Fall. By training young boys and girls to gladly and willingly keep God’s commands in this physical life, the pervasive and devastating effects of Adam’s sin on our world are lessened for themselves, for their families and for our culture at large. Morris Christian School endeavors to build godly, disciplined character and conscience in its students. A child who has learned moral self-restraint and integrity possesses life-long advantages over those who cannot conform their personal behavior to Biblical and societal standards. Reaching this first objective is the minimum pre-requisite for living a successful life, for building a happy marriage and home, and for maintaining a civil society. The second objective is to instill in each child a knowledge of God and of His intervention in time and space. Morris Christian School aspires to the highest academic standards infused with a Christian worldview. Since God is Truth, the teaching of all intellectual truth is encompassed within this objective, including both natural law as discovered by man, and revelation as spoken to man in the Word of God. It is an integrated understanding of these truths and acquired skill in their consistent, practical application, which permit the student to know God, to live in harmony with Him and His creation, and to then effectively carry the light of God that dispels the world’s darkness. Morris Christian School’s ultimate goal is to perpetuate faith in future generations by assisting parents and church in calling young people to love our Lord Jesus Christ and to personally trust Him for temporal needs as well as for salvation, equipping and motivating each student to use his talents and skills for God’s glory and the progress of mankind. A proper relationship between parents, church and school is critical to the success of any educational endeavor. Morris Christian School recognizes the God-given responsibility of parents to direct and oversee the education of their children and the inescapable duty of parents to bring them to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. The administration and faculty serve as trustees, accountable to God and to the parents, for each student’s educational progress. In spiritual matters, the School acknowledges the authority of parents and the local congregation, and seeks to assist and compliment them both. Bible instruction will be from a basic evangelical perspective as outlined in the Statement of Faith. Questions regarding denominational doctrinal issues will be referred to parents or pastors. Education is necessarily and inescapably religious by its very nature. Only Christian education, because it alone correctly addresses the needs of the whole person and because it uniquely and singularly communicates the truth of nature and of God, can endow generations of young men and women with true wisdom that brings glory to God in this world and the world to come.
For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they make them known to their children; That the generations to come might know them, the children that would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children. That they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. |
